Your Ubisoft titles on Stadia can easily be migrated to PC

Back in October, CDProjektRed detailed how users can rescue and export their Cyberpunk 2077 game progress from Google’s dying Stadia game streaming platform.

Now, Ubisoft is allowing Stadia users that purchased any of its games to migrate over to Ubisoft Connect, allowing you to retain your Ubisoft games and game progress directly on PC, all at no extra cost. Further, Ubisoft’s approach is much simpler than CDProjektRed’s. In the case of CyberPunk 2077, users have to manually export and import their game data using Google Takeout, however, with Ubisoft, any of the publisher’s titles that you purchased on Stadia will be automatically be added to your Ubisoft account through Ubisoft Connect as long as you have your Stadia and Ubisoft accounts linked.

If you’ve played a Ubisoft game on Stadia, the accounts should already be linked, but if they’re not already, you can connect them in your Ubisoft account’s settings.

Once linked, any Ubisoft title on your Stadia account should automatically migrate over.

It’s worth noting that Stadia has confirmed that purchases on all hardware and software products are eligible for refunds. So technically, you’ll get a refund for Ubisoft games, while also being able to migrate them over and continue playing them free of cost. It’s also worth noting that any in-game virtual currency that you have isn’t transferable, so make sure to spend it before January 18th, the day Stadia ceases to exist.

Further, as a measure of goodwill, “all Ubisoft customers on Stadia, whether owners or subscribers, will also receive a coupon code for one free month of GeForce NOW Priority Membership, which will allow you to keep streaming Ubisoft games across a wide variety of devices,” reads Ubisoft’s blog post.

Xbox Series X 8-can replica fridge down to $48.88 at Walmart

If you’re like me and have been waiting for a discount to buy Microsoft’s Xbox Series X replica fridge, the time has arrived (sort of).

The full-sized, 12-can version of the undeniably cool-looking but not very well-reviewed fridge cost $149.99 back when pre-orders first went live last December, but now, the cost is down to $88.88 ($61.11 off).

On the other hand, the 8-can version of the Series X replica fridge is down to just $48.88, making it a much easier joke/impulse buy (even I might pick one up). This smaller version of the fridge cost $99.99 when it was first released ($51.11 off)

It’s worth noting that this doesn’t seem to be a limited-time discount, with both fridges’ regular prices being slashed in time for the holiday shopping season.

Even with the Series X replica fridges’ issues (they’re apparently very loud), they could be the perfect last-minute gift for that gamer in your life.

The first OCP Ready data center in Canada to open in Lévis, Québec

QScale, which builds eco-responsible data centers for applications such as supercomputing and artificial intelligence, has announced that its Q01 campus has obtained the OCP Ready certification from the Open Compute Project Foundation. It is the first Canadian facility to receive this distinction.

The Q01 campus, located in Lévis, QC, will provide hosting services for infrastructures capable of supporting high performance computing (HPC), artificial intelligence (AI), as well as machine learning.

The campus is powered by 142 megawatts of almost 100 per cent renewable energy, the company explained in a statement. It can accommodate liquid-cooled computer racks that have a density of up to 200 kW, as well as more traditional air-cooled servers in the same environment. Liquid solutions can include Rear Door Heat Exchanger (RDHx), Direct Liquid Cooling (DLC), and Immersive Cooling. The concrete floors of the brand-new facility are built to support very high loads, ready to handle the weight of tomorrow’s supercomputers.

“We are proud to receive this recognition from the Open Compute Project, as it solidifies our mission to provide energy-efficient, high-quality computing centers for HPC, AI and machine learning. As the next generation of computers revolves specifically around these sectors, it’s important that hosting services are accessible, flexible, and future-proofed. The OCP Ready certification shows our commitment to meeting these standards and providing the best possible solutions to our customers,” said Martin Bouchard, President of QScale.

The Open Compute Project Facility Recognition Program provides benchmark guidelines for the growing number of operators and users adopting IT infrastructure systems based on the Open Compute Project architecture.

“QScale builds state-of-the-art computing centers for HPC and intensive AI that leverage the latest technology concepts from the Open Compute Project,” said Mark Dansie, Open Compute Project’s OCP Ready facilities manager. “The facility stands out for its sustainability, clean energy sourcing initiative, and waste heat reuse process.”

Samsung’s Galaxy S23 series rumoured to launch on February 1st

Samsung’s Galaxy S23 series is expected to be the hottest Android device to launch in the first quarter of 2023. Now two well-known, often-reliable leakers claim the South Korean tech giant’s phones will launch on February 1st.

Both Ice Universe and Steve Hemmerstoffer (@OnLeaks) agree on this date.

The Galaxy s23 is rumoured to sport a QHD+ 3088 x 1440-pixel resolution, 8GB/12GB of RAM, 256GB/512GB/1TB of storage, four rear cameras with a 200-megapixel primary, a 12-megapixel ultrawide, a 10-megapixel 3x telephoto and a 10-megapixel telephoto with 10x optical zoom.

Further, Samsung’s flagship will feature Bluetooth, USB-xC, a gyrosensor, a proximity sensor, a light sensor, an under-display fingerprint reader, face recognition and a 4,855mAh battery that will be marketed as a 5,000mAh battery.

Government of Canada to invest $4 million to boost economic growth through green manufacturing initiative

Today, the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario) announced an investment of up to C$4 million for the Yves Landry Foundation (YLF) to deliver the Achieving Innovation and Manufacturing Excellence Green Initiative (AIME Green).

The YLF is a not-for-profit charitable organization established by Canada’s manufacturing and business sectors. It is designed to advance technological education and skills training to address the skilled labour and technical professional shortages impacting the country.

“We are thrilled that the Federal Economic Development Agency of Southern Ontario has entrusted us with this important initiative. We have a long standing history of supporting the manufacturing sector,” said Karyn Brearley, executive director, Yves Landry Foundation. “It is essential that SME’s manufacture products that use processes and products which reduce harmful environmental impacts, conserve energy and our precious natural resources using earth-friendly materials that are safe for employees, communities and consumers. And this can only be achieved by having a highly qualified workforce. We are very pleased the government continues to support our AIME programming.”

Through the AIME Green initiative, southern Ontario small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the manufacturing sector will be able to receive up to C$100,000 to upskill and train their workforces to adopt green manufacturing solutions. Eligible organizations will have access to programs that help support the adoption of new technology, green processes or procedures, or highly skilled personnel in areas that lead to sustainable innovation.

As the demand for sustainable innovations and green products increases, the Government of Canada is committing to investing in local businesses and organizations to help them with their sustainability journey.

“When we invest in Canadian manufacturers and the organizations that support them, like the Yves Landry Foundation, we increase Canada’s potential and grow the economy,” said the Honourable Filomena Tassi, Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario. “Today’s investment will bolster Canada’s path to be a global leader in cleaner and greener manufacturing while creating good jobs across southern Ontario.”

FedDev says that, through the program, YLF will support 36 SMEs, create 400 jobs, and maintain 1,050 jobs in the manufacturing sector. To apply, SME’s can visit the AIME Green webpage. The application deadline is March 31, 2023.

Musk to resign once he finds someone ‘foolish enough’ to be Twitter CEO

Surprising absolutely no one, Elon Musk said he would still be in charge of parts of Twitter after finding someone “foolish enough” to take the job.

Over the weekend, Musk ran a Twitter poll asking if he should step down as head of Twitter after he oversaw a series of suspensions targeting journalists and rival social media platforms. He lost, with nearly 58 percent of the 17.5 million votes favouring Musk stepping down. Further, in an absolute sore loser move, Musk said he’d change the rules on Twitter to restrict voting in polls so only Twitter Blue subscribers can do so.

Following the poll, there was some debate over whether Musk would actually step down from the CEO role. I had doubts, but reports suggested Musk had started the hunt for a new Twitter CEO long before posting the poll. Well, looks like I was at least partially right.

Musk tweeted a response to the poll on December 20th, writing that he will resign “as soon as I find someone foolish enough to take the job.” Musk went on to say he would “just run the software & servers teams” after handing over the CEO role.

As The Verge points out, software and servers are the vast majority of Twitter at this point, especially after Musk laid off huge swaths of the company. However you slice it, it seems clear Musk has no intention of giving up control regardless if he holds the official CEO title.

Electric vehicles to make up 100 percent of sales by 2035: government

One-fifth of all new vehicles sold in Canada in 2026 will be zero-emission vehicles, according to prosed regulations introduced Wednesday.

Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault says the regulations will apply to companies manufacturing and importing cars, vans and SUVs.

The draft regulations state the sale of new zero-emission vehicles will increase to 60 percent by 2030 and hit 100 percent by 2035.

“These targets will help increase the supply so that more Canadians who want to own a zero-emission vehicle can buy one,” a press release from Environment and Climate Change Canada states.

According to reporting from the Canadian Press, sellers who don’t meet sale targets could be subjected to penalties under Canada’s Environmental Protection Act.

The federal government has made previous investments in the zero-emission vehicle market, including funding thousands of new charging stations across the country. By 2027, the federal government will fund 85,000 charging stations.

Ukraine to receive thousands of Starlink terminals as funding concerns temporarily subside

Ukraine is set to receive more than 10,000 Starlink terminals.

The country’s deputy prime minister Mykhailo Fedorov confirmed the news to Bloomberg. Several countries, part of the European Union, are ready to help pay for the service, he said.

The announcement momentarily puts an end to questions on how Ukraine could fund the satellite internet service. Starlink’s satellite internet terminals served as a vital source of communication when they first arrived in the country following Russia’s Invasion that destroyed Ukraine’s communications infrastructure.

But its presence was questioned this fall when SpaceX said it might stop funding the service. The company asked the U.S. to provide financial resources for the service.

“As of now all financial issues have been resolved,” Fedorov told Bloomberg. While he didn’t go into detail, Fedorov said it will need financial assistance by spring 2023.

Ukraine has received roughly 22,000 Starlink antennas since February.

“Regarding internet, we have a lot of Starlinks, but the key point is we have got a nod for another shipment that will be used to stabilize connection for critical situations,” Fedorov said.
